2007 CASTRIES, St. Lucia
By Beverley Jean-Baptiste
I could hear distress in her voice.
It was approximately 2:30pm when the phone rang. It was Saturday May 19 and our lives were just about to change in a way that no one could have predicted.
"Margo what's wrong?" I asked her.
"Just come over, and please hurry."
With that my sister hung up the phone and I was left with no choice but to get dressed and head over to her house to see what the problem was.
Our parents had three of us. Margo's the oldest. I am the middle child, followed by our brother Peter.
Margo is married to Gilroy and together they have two children, Damien 16 and Betty-Ann 7.
I arrived at Margo's house about 45 minutes after she called. When I got there she and Betty-Ann were sitting in the living room. I could see that they had both been crying before and as soon as they saw me, they both started crying again.
Damien was out playing cricket with his friends.
Margo's marriage was nearing an end. Gilroy moved out months ago and was living overseas.
